Decommissioning, rededication, sale – or outright demolition? The large churches in Germany are increasingly losing their houses of worship. The congregations are losing a piece of their home. This is happening all over Germany. Because the churches lack not only the faithful, but also the priests and priestesses, small congregations are being merged into larger pastoral units in many places. But in the anonymous XXL parishes, a piece of cohesion and local identity is lost. What is to be done with the churches that have become superfluous?
